Happy Mother’s Day!

Happy Mother’s Day to you!

My Boysa picture of my boys 20 years ago!!!

May you appreciate whatever comes your way today and not get stuck on what doesn’t!

My best tip is to ask for what you want! Just say it out loud – I’d really like for us all to go to the park for the afternoon! or I want to plant some flowers together. And I offer you this touching poem…

A Blade of Grass

You ask for a poem.
I offer you a blade of grass.
You say it is not good enough.
You ask for a poem.

I say this blade of grass will do.
It has dressed itself in frost,
It is more immediate
Than any image of my making.

You say it is not a poem,
It is a blade of grass and grass
Is not quite good enough.
I offer you a blade of grass.

You are indignant.
You say it is too easy to offer grass.
It is absurd.
Anyone can offer a blade of grass.

You ask for a poem.
And so I write you a tragedy about
How a blade of grass
Becomes more and more difficult to offer,

And about how as you grow older
A blade of grass
Becomes more difficult to accept.

  1. Thanks, Jean, for this message. So important to joyfully receive what has been offered. I especially love the poem – very timely for me and I plan to humbly share it. Happy Mother’s Day to you, dear friend. XOXO, alisha

    1. Yes, to joyfully receive! I remember the first time I read this poem, I just cried and cried recognizing that I was the one insisting on something other than what was offered. I love rereading this poem every so often to remind myself! Happy Mother’s Day to you, dear friend. Big hugs!
